moviematcha
Android app · pre-launch

Find your people through what you watch.

MovieMatcha builds your taste from the films and series you've actually watched, imported from Netflix, Letterboxd, IMDb and more, then matches you with people for friends or dating. Every match comes with its proof: the titles you share, rarest first.

The match moment: two photos, two cups with a heart, and the line It's a matcha! You both put Aftersun and Past Lives in your Essential Four.
Discover, dating mode: Leo, 31, a 72% match, because you both put Aftersun and Past Lives in your Essential Four. Five shared posters show both people's ratings and how rare each title is.

Aftersun: seen by 7% of members. That's why it counts.

Screens from the Android build. The people shown are fictional.

The percentage never shows up alone.

Match apps love a big, flattering number. MovieMatcha shows the titles behind it, with both people's ratings, so you can judge the match yourself.

  • Rare titles count moreSharing an obscure favorite says far more than sharing a blockbuster, so it weighs more.
  • Ratings have to agreeWatching the same thing isn't enough. Loving and hating the same ending matters.
  • Calibrated, never inflatedNot everyone is a 90%. A score comes from the titles you share, and the breakdown is one tap away.
  • Private by defaultDistance is shown only roughly, live presence is opt-in, and you control your imports.
A 72% match with the reason: you both put Aftersun and Past Lives in your Essential Four. Below it, five posters: Aftersun 7%, Past Lives 9%, Normal People 4%, The Worst Person in the World 8%, Before Sunrise 13%, each with both people's marks.
The proof strip on a Discover card. Percentages on the posters show how many members have seen each title.

  3. A chat that starts from the shared title: You matched on Aftersun, titles to watch together, and the first messages about its ending.

    Start from a title

Every match comes with an opener, plus titles you'd both like that stream on a service you both have.

  4. The Now tab: you're watching Aftersun, your matches watching now, and live rooms such as Squid Game with four people watching.

    See who's watching now

Check in to what's on your screen, and a match can start while the credits roll.

  5. A shareable taste card: Sara's taste, The Slow-Burn Romantic, her Essential Four posters, palette, stats, and a compare link.

    Compare with a friend

Share your taste card or a compare link: "How compatible are we?"

Your taste is already out there.

No scraping and no passwords. MovieMatcha reads the exports and data downloads these services already give you.

Where it stands.

MovieMatcha is pre-launch. The Android app and its backend run end to end on test devices: sign-up, imports, matching, chat and live rooms. There are no public users yet.

It's built by Ilhan Ozkan, a solo founder in Antalya, with Claude Code. Next up: match explanations and first-message openers written with Claude, always grounded in the titles two people actually share.
